ASYLUM APPLICATIONS AT LOWEST LEVEL IN A DECADE
Tony McNultyAsylum applications fell in 2005 to their lowest level since 1994 and the number of removals increased for the fourth consecutive quarter, according to statistics published by the Home Office today. But the number of EU Accession State individuals, like those from many Eastern European Countries, rose to 345,000 including 49,335 who applied to the Worker Registration Scheme between October & December 2005. read more read more
 
18-24 YEAR OLDS DON'T BOTHER TO VOTE
Some of those involved in the 1824 Collective CampaignLondon has the worst voter registration level in the country. The 1824 Collective is a campaign to increase the number of young people who are registered to vote ahead of the local elections in May. ASIAN GP COLLECTS £100K FOR TSUNAMI HOSPITAL
Dr Tushara WickramanayakaDr Tushara Wickramanayaka (Tush Wick), a Sri Lankan born GP working in Milton Keynes, today (3 Feb 2006) collected a cheque for £10,000 from Mayor of Barnet, Andreas Tambourides. Dr Wick outlined her plans for building a children's hospital in Kalutara, Sri Lanka.
