ASIAN WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 2006

Singer/Songwriter Karen David is shortlisted in the Arts & Culture category for the Asian Women of Acheivement Awards 2006

Chief Inspector Parm Sandhu, Britain's top Asian female cop won the Asian Woman of Achievement Award last night at a ceremony attended by Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair who paid tribute to her achievement. The AWA Awards 2006 ceremony was hosted by Kavita Maharaj in the presence of HRH The Duke of Kent and patron Cherie Blair.

ASIA HOUSE CANCELS 'ANTI-HINDU' M F HUSAIN EXHIBITION

The Hindu Human Rights (HHR) campaign is claiming victory after Asia House announced that it was to cancel the M F Husain exhibition which the HHR campaign claims contained offensive erotic imagery of Hindu Deities. The controversial Indian artist has become infamous for his 1996 paintings of Saraswati, Draupadi and Sita.

ASIAN WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 2006 SHORTLIST

The Asian Women of Achievement (AWA) Awards 2006 shortlist was announced today. The awards celebrate the commitment, dedication and determination of Asian women from all over the country and from all walks of life. Founded by Pinky Lilani and Munir Samji the awards were set up by to recognise all levels of achievement in eight separate categories.

£10K REWARD FOR INFO ON NISHA PATEL-NASRI MURDER

A reward of £10,000 is being offered by The Sun newspaper for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Special Constable Nisha Patel-Nasri on Thursday 11 May 2006. Commissioner Sir Ian Blair paid tribute to Special Constable Nisha Patel-Nasri following her tragic death and condolences have been pouring in to the Met since then.

RACIST ATTACKS IN LONDON DECLINE FOR 6TH YEAR

Racist attacks in London decline for sixth year.

Ken Livingstone has announced new figures showing that for the sixth year in a row racist offences in London have fallen - they are now at 11,322 in the year to March 2006. Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: “We are going to continue to show zero tolerance towards any form of racism."

KARAN BILIMORIA UP FOR PEERAGE

Karan Bilimoria, founder and CEO of Cobra Beer is one of seven new non-party-political peers recommended by the House of Lords Appointments Commission it was announced today. Professor Kamlesh Patel, an academic and government advisor on mental health, drugs and ethnicity is also among the nominees. As peers, they will sit in the Upper House.
