MITTAL TOPS BRITAIN'S RICH LIST |
Indian
steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal has again emerged as Britain's richest
person after topping The Sunday Times' annual Rich List and adding
£4.1 billion to his existing wealth, now worth £19 billion.
Among
the Asians listed in the Sunday Times Rich List, the fastest movers
have been Mittal; Lord Swraj Paul and Anil Agarwal of Vedanta Resources.

7TH - TIME TO CELEBRATE IMMIGRATION |
As
more anti-migrant laws make their way through Parliament the Joint
Council for the Welfare of Immigrants is calling on migrants to show
that immigration is a cause for celebration. Habib Rahman JCWI Chief
Executive urged the public to join the migrants day on Monday
7 May, two days before the UK Borders Bill is back in the Commons.

| SOUTH
ASIANS POORER THAN WHITES IN BRITAIN |
The
poverty rate for Britains minority ethnic groups stands at 40%,
double the 20% found amongst white British people, according to new
research published today (30 April) by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation
(JRF). Minority ethnic groups are also being overlooked for jobs and
are being paid lower wages, despite improvements in education.

HINDU TEMPLE PRAYS FOR WORLD PEACE |
A
Hindu chaplain of Britain's armed forces led religious leaders of
different faiths in four-day prayers for world peace and unity at
a temple in north England. The event, organised by Acharya Krishan
K. Attri, the first Hindu chaplain of the armed forces, included a
musical performance by composer Ravindra Jain.

has become the first Indian woman to be elected as a Fellow of The
Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) - the world's largest professional
body of marketing, with 50,000 members worldwide. CIM has 1905 fellows

POINTS BASED MIGRATION SYSTEM TO START IN 2008 |
Immigration
Minister Liam Byrne, today unveiled the timetable for introducing
the UK's tough new Australian-style points based system for migration,
during a fact finding visit to Sydney. The new scheme, which will
be phased in from early 2008, will enable the British Government to
manage migration to the UK more effectively, tackle abuse and attract
the most talented workers into the UK economy.

PAUL HAILS INTERNATIONAL STUDENT VISA EXTENSIONS |
University
of Westminster Chancellor Lord Swraj Paul has welcomed a government
initiative that will allow international students studying in the
UK including those from India to stay for a year after
graduating. From May 1, any overseas student graduating with a degree
in the UK will be able to extend their visa for a year, regardless
of subject of study.
