A
new survey, commissioned by BBC Asian Network, finds an Asian population
happy with life in Britain but with some major caveats concerning
Asian and British identity. Over a third (38%) of British Asians say
they feel only a little/not at all British. Two thirds of Asians (59%)
say they feel completely/a lot British, compared to 73% of White people.

| SHAMBO
IS SLAUGHTERED DESPITE PROTESTS |
Welsh
authorities today (Fri 27 July 2007) confirmed that the bovine TB-infected
'sacred' bull Shambo was put down by a lethal injection soon . The
animal's slaughter brings to an end what many in Britain saw as a
bizarre tussle between religion and state.

PATIL IS INDIA'S 12TH PRESIDENT |
Pratibha
Devisingh Patil was sworn in as India's 12th president 25 July 2007.
Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan administered the oath of
office and secrecy to the 72-year-old Patil, who is the first woman
president of the country. Outgoing president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and
Patil exchanged seats as the ceremonial 21-gun salute resonated outside.

EQUALITY GENERATIONS AWAY REPORTS EOC |
The
Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) today warned that gender equality
is still generations away and called for urgent action to close the
stubborn gaps within ten years. 'Completing the Revolution', the EOCs
report sets out the most comprehensive ever measure of gender equality.

SHARMA WINS EALING SOUTHALL BY-ELECTION |
Labour
Party candidate, Virendra Kumar Sharma has won the Ealing Southall
by elections. He was elected as MP on 19 July 2007 following the by-election,
called after the death of the sitting Labour MP, Piara Khabra on 19
June 2007. Sharma was born in India and educated at the London School
of Economics. Prior to his election as an MP, Sharma was the Mayor
of Ealing.

Metropolitan University has presented actress Shilpa Shetty with an
Honorary Doctorate for Contribution to Cultural Diversity. Leeds has
commemorated Indias independence by honouring personalities
who have contributed to the emergence of India as a fast developing
nation.

Charanjit
Mehat, Head of Drug Interventions at Her Majesty Prison Birmingham
and Hafiz Muhammad Yaqoob, Founder of National Halal Centres, were

Jewel Awards for the Central region. The awards, now in their fifth

THE SACRED BULL IS SAVED |
The
Hindu Forum of Britain expressed its deep sense of relief at the High
Courts decision to save Shambo, the sacred bull, from slaughter.
Shambo was threatened with slaughter because he has tested positive
in a routine bovine tuberculosis test in May.

comes from Belgrave in Leicester.

Conservative Party's By-election campaign in Ealing Southall received
a massive boost today following the news that four Labour Councillors
have defected to the Conservatives to back Tony Lit's campaign. The
defecting Labour Councillors were named as Cllr Gurcharan Singh, Cllr
Manjit Singh, Cllr Jarnail Singh Jandu and Cllr Jagdish Gupta.

Hizb
ut-Tahrir Britain has denounced David Cameron's call for the party
to be banned. Hizb ut-Tahrir released a statement noting that ' while
David Cameron alleged in Parliament today that Hizb ut-Tahrir is "poisoning
the minds of young people", less than a year ago he express his
gratitude to the party.

LIT CHOSEN TO FIGHT EALING BY-ELECTION |
Tony
Lit, the Managing Director of Sunrise Radio, has been chosen by he
Conservative Party as their candidate to fight the Ealing Southall
by-election. Lit, who will stand down from his position at the radio
station, joined the party earlier this week. Mr Lit will stand against
Labour Party candidate Virendra Sharma and Liberal candidate, Nigel
Bakhai.

DEMS CHOOSE NIGEL BAKHAI FOR EALING SOUTHALL |
The
Liberal Democrats have selected local man Nigel Bakhai to contest
the parliamentary by-election contest in Ealing Southall. The by-election
contest was triggered following the death of Labour MP Piara Khabra.
The Liberal Democrats are the main challengers to Labour in the seat,
having finished second at the last Election.
