LLOYDS
MANAGER WINS 'WOMAN OF ACHIEVEMENT' AWARD
(18 March 2007)
Muna
Chauhan, a Senior Personal Bank Manager with Lloyds TSB, received
the Coventry 'Women of Achievement Award' 2007 for her charity &
community work in the region. Her accolade is for her "steadfast
approach, influence and participation have been key to promoting
good race relations and interfaith dialogue within various different
groups". In particular, Muna has helped raise hundreds of thousands
of pounds for the charity Sewa International where she is a volunteer,
for their worldwide appeals and campaigns.
As
well as raising funds, Muna has regularly gone out to disaster areas
in countries abroad, which have been hit by Tsunamis, Earthquakes,
Floods and Hurricanes, (at her own cost) to offer her voluntary
services in the humanitarian and rehabilitation work, especially
with befriending and counselling vulnerable children who have lost
their parents and women who have become widows.
Muna
is a familiar face around Coventry and helps many other community
& voluntary organisations to raise funds for other charities
including NSPCC, Myton Hospice, Cancer Research, Walsgrave Hospital
and the Lord Mayor's appeals. She is also an active member of the
CIC Festival Committee, which consists of community and religious
leaders who come together to organise and celebrate various festivals
including Diwali, Vaisakhi and Christmas on a large scale.
In
all the voluntary organisations that Muna is associated with , she
strives to ensure that people from ethnic backgrounds in particular
the elderly, young people, the disadvantaged and vulnerable and
especially women are given the opportunity to gain confidence, training,
empowerment skills and self awareness skills.
A spokesperson
for Sewa International said "Muna is an 'unsung hero' for the
City of Coventry. She always shy's away from the glare of publicity
and always puts others forward to receive praise. Muna always comments
that it gives her great happiness to help others and feels that
it is our duty to humanity to help one another. Muna Chauhan is
worthy of recognition for her determination and compassion in helping
people from all sections of the community".
On
receiving the award for her Muna commented "I am truly overwhelmed
to receive this award, which I would like to dedicate in particular
to all ethnic minority women, who do so much work with great selflessness
and dedication to community development and, especially, to the
progress and development of women. I hope that this award inspires
other women to continue with the valuable work that they do in order
to make this a better world". Muna continued "in the world
today, it is through women's efforts throughout society, that communities
are being sufficiently empowered, informed and supported in order
to make a strong impact on ethics, values and governance".
