Prince
Charles Awarded Global Empowerment Award 2009
(21 May 2009)
His
Royal Highness The Prince of Wales was last night
awarded the Global Empowerment Award 2009, presented
by Caspian Publishing in association with Aviva
Plc. Prince Charles was presented the award by
the programme's founder, Indian born author and
entrepreneur Pinky Lilani OBE, in recognition
of his work empowering disadvantaged communities
and individuals around the world. Their Royal
Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess
of Cornwall were attending the tenth Asian Women
of Achievement (AWA) Awards ceremony in London
last night (20 May 2009). The AWA Awards celebrate
the contribution of Asian women to British life
in the media, business, the arts, politics and
the voluntary sector.
In
her tribute to the The Prince of Wales, Pinky
Lilani said, "More perhaps than anyone in
Britain today, His Royal Highness has created
opportunity and changed lives. Across the range
of his activities, his dedication to the most
disadvantaged in our society runs deep. He has
personally founded 18 charitable organisations
and across his group of not-for-profit enterprises,
some £119m is raised annually in support
of opportunity and enterprise. The most shining
example is, of course, the Prince's Trust which,
since its creation in 1976, has helped more than
600,000 young people to transform their own futures."
The Global Empowerment Award
was created to acknowledge an individual whose
vision inspires economic and social progress across
the world. The award honours the work of a remarkable
individual who exemplifies outstanding leadership,
responsibility and courage; a person who has contributed
to inspiring other to champion progress and success.
