Rev. Jesse Jackson honoured with an Asian Public Life Award

Jesse Jackson was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Asian Voice Political & Public Life Awards ceremony held at the House of Commons, London on Thursday 25th February 2010. Jesse Jackson thanked Mr C B Patel, Publisher of 'Asian Voice' newspaper and told the 300-strong audience that "we still have a long way to go in order to learn to live harmoniously together. That is the biggest political challenge we face".

Other parliamentary winners included: the Rt Hon David Cameron MP who was named 'Politician of the Year', the Rt. Hon Ed Balls MP named 'Minister of the Year', Stephen Pound MP was 'Labour Parliamentarian of the Year', Simon Hughes was recognised as 'Liberal Democrat Parliamentarian of the Year', Damian Green MP was named 'Conservative Parliamentarian of the Year' alongside Rev Jesse Jackson who received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Joe Murphy, Political Editor of the London 'Evening Standard' was named 'Parliamentary Journalist of the Year'.



Asian Voice Political & Public Life Awards 2010

  • Politician of the Year - - Rt. Hon David Cameron MP, Leader of the Opposition
  • Labour Parliamentarian of the Year - Stephen Pound, MP Ealing North
  • Liberal Democrat Parliamentarian of the Year - Simon Hughes, MP North Southwark & Bermondsey
  • Conservative Parliamentarian of the Year - Damian Green, MP Ashford and Shadow Minister
  • Minister of the Year - Rt. Hon Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children Schools & Families
  • Parliamnetary Journalist of the Year - Joe Murphy, Political editor of the 'Evening Standard'
  • Lifetime Achievement Award - Rev. Jesse Jackson

Bizarrely, the awards ceremony then honoured other non-parliamentary and non-public life winners including:

  • TV Personality of the Year - Nitin Ganatra
  • Journalist of the Year - Shefali Oza
  • Asian Broadcaster of the Year - Dhruv Gadhvi
  • Media Company of the Year - Sheena Bhattessa, ITSPR
  • News Agency of the Year - NDTV
  • Award for International Achievement - Som Mandal
  • Restaurant of the Year - Moti Mahal
  • Campaign of the Year - Jagdish Chander (Incredible India Campaign)
  • Male Entrepreneur of the Year - Dr Rami Ranger MBE FRSA, Sumark
  • Female Entrepreneur of the Year - Namita Panjabi, Masala World Group
  • Male Professional of the Year - Professor Jaspal Kooner
  • Female Professional of the Year - Rhaynukaa Soni
  • Community Award - Joginder Sanger
  • Sports Personality of the Year - Boxer Rendall Munroe
