Mukesh Ambani is Asia’s Richest Billionaire according to Forbes Magazine

Microsoft Founder Bill Gates is no longer the world’s richest man, according to the Forbes Magazine Billionaires List published today, 10 March 2010. Gates has been pipped to the number 1 slot by Mexican telecoms mogul Carlos Slim who is estimated to have a fortune worth $53.5 billion, up $18.5 billion in 12 months -sShares of America Movil, of which Slim owns a $23 billion stake, were up also 35% in a year according to the magazine. India’s Mukesh Ambani comes in at number 4 in the Top 10 with a net worth of $29 billion, just ahead of London-based steelmaker Lakshmi Mittal who is worth $28.7 billion. Among Asia’s richest billionaires are 10 Indians including: Mukesh Ambani, Lakshmi Mittal, Azim Premji, Anil Ambani, Shashi & Ravi Ruia, Savitri Jindal, Kushal Pal Singh, Kumar Birla, Sunil Mittal and Anil Agarwal.

Forbes magazine claims that “last year's wealth wasteland has become a billionaire bonanza. Most of the richest people on the planet have seen their fortunes soar in the past year.” Among those whose fortunes have improved are Bill Gates, whose fortune leapt up by $13 billion in the past year and investor Warren Buffett whose fortune jumped by $10 billion.
