Lakshmi Mittal tops Britain's
Rich List 2011
8th May 2011
Lakshmi
Mittal has once again topped The Sunday Times Rich
List published on 8th May 2011 with a fortune of
£17.51 billion, which is 22% below that of
last year. Compiled by Philip Beresford, the list
notes that fortunes in Britain are soaring as the
world recovers from the 2008-09 crash. As a result,
the collective wealth of the 1,000 multimillionaires
in the 2011 Sunday Times Rich List has climbed by
18% overall with the super rich gaining £60.2
billion in total. They are now worth £395.8
billion compared to £335.5 billion last year
and "within striking distance of their all-time
pre-recession high of £413 billion set in
2008". The increasing level of wealth has made
the bottom line for entry into the list £70
million, up £7million from last year.
Sri & Gopichand Hinduja
have made a re-entry into Britain Top Ten rich
with an estimated fortune of £6 billion
and Sri Prakash Lohia is at number 13 of the 'Biggest
Risers' in the Rich List have jumped 71 places.
Lohia is one of three brothers running Indorama,
a textile and plastics business, putting his wealth
at an estimated £1.3i billion. Ironically,
Lohia is married to the sister of Lakshmi Mittal.
"The wealthy must do
more for the society, or they will provoke public
anger of the kind that is currently directed towards
bankers" states the Rich List and thankfully
Indian Anurag Dikshit has taken heed. He has topped
the 'Giving List' with £172 million from
share sales in his partygaming business being
donated to The Kusuma Trust. The trust, founded
by Dikshit, is dedicated to educational and social
causes, particularly in India. "His residual
wealth has plunged to £35m indicting that,
in the past year, he has donated almost five times
what he still has".
Although the 'Asian Rich
List' was not specifically published this year,
the Sunday Times does list Britain's 20 Richest
Asian Millionaires.
