ANDY
VARMA
Co-Founder, Vama
Head
Chef and co-owner (with brother Arjun) Andy Varma opened Vama on
the King's Road in 1998. Previously, Andy had managed the restaurants
of top hotels including the prestigious Oberoi hotel chain. His
successful career in the restaurant business started in the early
eighties when Andy set up Le Swisse in the little town of Mussoorie
in India. The restaurant became an instant hit, which led to him
opening up The Village Shop, a trendy pasta and pizza restaurant
with a European touch.
Before
long, his next venture, Dukes Place made its mark on Delhi's nightlife.
Fame
soon followed on a bigger scale when STAR TV host Prannoy Roy, approached
Andy to present a regular cookery slot on the popular breakfast
show Good Morning India. Following a successful three-year stint
on the programme, Andy launched Sticky Fingers, the first pizza
delivery place in Delhi, which quickly became a household name.
On
one of his regular trips to London, Andy discovered a niche in the
restaurant market and after careful research and much planning,
Andy decided to wrap up his business ventures in India and joined
his brother Arjun in London. Together, Andy and Arjun launched Vama
in the heart of Chelsea to an enthusiastic response.
Co-owner
and Financial Director, Arjun Varma MBA, BBA, B.COM, has a strong
background in property management and successfully acquired the
site for Vama's flagship restaurant in Chelsea. With his business
expertise, Arjun Varma, ensures the smooth running of the financial,
administrative and infrastructure requirements of the restaurant.
Aside
from the restaurant, Vama also offers customers a unique opportunity
to entertain at home without the headache of cooking. It offers
a professional personalised service, which brings a leading chef
into your home to organise large or intimate lunches, dinners and
cocktail parties. The restaurant also runs a popular cookery course,
which offers guests the chance to share some of its gastronomic
secrets. For just £35.00 per person, diners can enjoy a full
day of training in the restaurant, which includes a practical session
in the kitchen.
