ASHA KHEMKA

Asha KhemkaAs principal of West Nottinghamshire College (WNC), Asha Khemka is the guiding light at the head of one of the biggest colleges in Europe, with 20,000 students and 1,200 staff. Khemka has a profound understanding of the importance of education: A housewife of 20 years with little knowledge or understanding of English or English culture, Khemka’s arrival in the UK in 1978 highlighted her need for further education.

Khemka completed her first teaching qualification in 1986 and took up a post as a Business Studies Lecturer at FE institution Oswestry College in Shropshire. It was in this environment that Khemka discovered her calling: to raise academic standards so that even those least likely to succeed in the world were given an opportunity to realise their potential.

Khemka is a respected Ofsted Inspector and nationally regarded as an important and inspirational figure in further education.
