MEHERNOSH
MODY
Executive Chef, La Porte des Indes
Having
gained significant experience through extensive training in the
best kitchens both in India and around the world, Mehernosh has
been the Executive Chef at London's well celebrated and highly revered
La Porte des Indes since the day it first opened its doors in 1986.
After a £2.5 million pound, two-year transformation, this
quiet, humble restaurant soon became one of the most respected eateries
in all of Britain.
Originally
from Bombay, Mehernosh has mastered the art of cooking by using
traditional influences from his roots and combining it with his
own personal progressive approach, creating a unique style that
has won him and La Porte des Indes many accolades over the years.
Amalgamating traditional spices and flavours with unusual, yet sublime
foods to a level of sophistication that is second to none makes
eating a menu that has been put together by Mehernosh an experience
that is both awe-inspiring and unforgettable.
Hitherto
in his successful career, Mehernosh has worked at the Taj Mahal
Hotel, Delhi, Taj Palace Hotel, the 'Tanjore' restaurant in the
Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay and the 'Taj Mahal Intercontinental Hotels',
Bombay, as well as the Zodiac Grill. Very early on in his working
life, Mehernosh was awarded silver and bronze medals, as well as
a certificate of commendation in the 'All India National Culinary
Arts Exhibition Contest'.
He
has also been recognised for participating in a special baking skills
programme organised by the 'Culinary Institute of America, New York'.
Mehernosh spent several years at the original La Porte des Indes
restaurant in Brussels, before taking charge of the kitchen in London
when the restaurant first opened its doors in February 1996.
Over
the last twelve years Mehernosh has taken great pride in his work
as Executive Chef of La Porte des Indes, ensuring that it has consistently
received rave reviews from the critics and recognition from the
industry's institutions. The restaurant has consistently been recognised
by the likes of the AA Guide and the Real Curry Restaurant Guide,
amongst a host of other establishments for its excellence.
It
is also one of the reasons why the likes of Alec Baldwin, Goldie
Hawn, Kylie Minogue, Leonado Dicaprio, Robert Redford and Will Smith,
amongst a vast list of other high profile celebrities have eaten
at their in recent times. Mehernosh has also made regular appearances
on UKTV's "Great Food Live" and recently released with
his wife, Sherin the cookbook "La Porte des Indes".
The
creation of the famous restaurant is as much a love story as it
is anything else. In 1986, Mehernosh Mody hired a young chef, Sherin,
as his assistant. They soon were inseparable, and their mutual love
for one another and French-Indian cuisine bore the very first La
Porte des Indes in London. Mehernosh Mody and Sherin Alexander Mody
are a unique couple as not only do they share a passion for food
but they are also a happily married couple who work alongside each
other every day. Mehernosh is the head chef at the La Porte des
Indes restaurant whilst, Sherin, a trained chef herself is the restaurant
manager.
