Navdip Dhariwal’s commitment and determination have seen her climb from humble beginnings as the daughter of an immigrant factory worker, to the dizzying heights of journalism as a respected news correspondent for the BBC. From her hard-hitting reports on the civil war in Sri Lanka, to her TV broadcasts from the thick of the action during the coup in Nepal, Dhariwal has forged an inspirational path to the forefront of British broadcasting.

Dhariwal’s journey began splitting her time between working on a pirate radio station and as a youth worker in Bristol. It wasn’t long before Dhariwal found herself in India, reporting as the BBC’s South East Asia correspondent, all the while using her own cultural identity and language skills to campaign for diversity in news coverage.

She sees herself as a role model to fellow minority journalists, and is constantly campaigning for the fair representation of other ethnic communities both in the newsroom, and in the BBC’s news broadcasts.
