PARVEEN SHEIKH

When she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, Parveen Sheikh decided to embark on a fundraising drive to help other cancer patients in her local area of Wycombe. She mobilised the Asian community to help raise money for a new cancer unit and, in doing so, also raised long-lasting awareness of the work of Scannappeal, an independent charity that fundraises for major capital appeals for Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

As part of her role as a founding member of the Patient Partnerships Group, Sheikh has also organised fundraising activities such as a sponsored walk. The group is focused on improving the care of cancer patients in the area. Scannappeal director Amanda Martin says: “She is a shining example of what you can do to motivate others, despite the debilitating effects of the treatment she has been receiving for a number of years.”
