VIJAY SHARMA
Vijay Sharma, head of BBC Asian Network, London

Vijay SharmaVijay Sharma joined BBC Radio Leicester 20 years ago as its education producer after working as a social worker and race relations advisor. She was there as a senior producer at the beginning of the BBC Asian Network, and progressed to editor as it expanded into a regional station in 1996 and was leading the network as it became a national digital station in 2002. Last year Vijay lead a complete reinvention of BBC Asian Network, overhauling the structure, schedules and staffing.

Today the station celebrates, challenges and connects with young British Asians under 35 across the UK. The on-air changes have seen listener figures rise to 493,000, introducing new British Asian musical talent, exclusive interviews and documentaries. Vijay has led one of the most radical revamps ever of a British national radio station.
