BAKER
TILLY CUP FINAL 2006
The cup final was delayed by half an hour due to damp conditions overnight
and started at 11.30. The atmosphere was raised by over a hundred supporters
who had arrived at 9.30am. Kondor batted first and suffered a huge blow
in the first over as Bharat Olympian skipper bowled Deepak Singh for zero.
Tirath Shukla went for 3 leaving Kondor 9-2. Kaushik Pindora (45) and
Narendra Patel (24), lead a Kondor recovery and were assisted by Rishi
Kotecha (17). Kondor lost 4 wickets in the space of 2 runs leaving their
innings in tatters as 116-9. Dhiren Haria (18) and Sami Haider (8no) put
on a valuable 27 runs for the 10th wicket to give Kondor some hope with
143 in 38.1 overs. Yogesh Prabhu and Chetan Patel finished with 3-26 and
3-28 respectively.
Bharat Olympians
started cautiously making steady progress due to some steady and hostile
Kondor bowling. Bharat Olympians lost wickets at regular intervals with
only Reza (64) showing any real command in the growing tension. Introduction
of spinners lead to Bharat Olympians playing a more cautious game which
lead to undue pressure as the run rate began to drop. Spinner Harshad
Patel captured 3-24, leaving Bharat Olympians at 124-5. The Kondor supporters
which now numbered in excesss of two hundred began to encourage their
players with hope as they smelled an opportunity for victory. Narendra
Patel picked up two wickets in his second spell to give Kondor the momentum.
The last pair from Bharat Olympians needed 12 off the last 2 overs and
managed to get to the position of requiring 4 off the last ball, however
were unable to deliver the boundary. Rishi Kotecha of Kondor was presented
with the Baker Tilly cup by Dipu Patel. Narendra Patel of Kondor was named
man of the match.
