MIDDLESEX
PREMIER CUP & PLATE FINALS - 26 AUGUST 2007
 The
Middlesex Premier cup and plate finals were played on 26th August
at Bessborough CC, Headstone Lane. Rajput Samaj who was contesting
their first major cup final played Sri Lankan Cavaliers. Sri Lankan
Cavaliers won the toss and elected to field first on a drying wicket.
The bowlers were always in command as the batsman found it difficult
to master the early swing. Some poor shot selection as well as a
bit of misfortune never allowed Rajput to gain any dominance in
the innings. Nilesh Patel made a watchful 41 before he was caught
in the deep for 41 by Nabeel Shah. Hiren Desai marshaled the tail
enders towards the end leaving Rajput Samaj on a final total of
128 in 36 overs.
The
early closure of the Rajput Samaj innings resulted in Sri Lankan
Cavaliers facing 6 overs prior to tea. Two wickets from Partik Patel
left Sri Lankan Cavliers at 22-2 at the interval. After tea, Sri
Lankan Cavaliers continued to score at a reasonable rate. The introduction
of Bharat Patel saw him bowl his quota of 9 overs for only 10 runs
as well as picking up 3 useful wickets. A well constructed 57no
from Numan Jayasena ensured that he was able to see Sri Lankan Cavaliers
past the target of 128 with 4 wickets and 11 overs to spare.
