Report
for 7 Sept 2008
The
weather played another key role in this weekend's matches. Most
of the games were called off early Sunday morning. There were only
3 games that were played.
In
division one, Lankians had made 160-8 in after the game was reduced
to 30 overs. Rajput had reached 151-8, thus requiring 10 runs to
win going into the last over. A stumping off the first ball off
the last over brought Jaydip Mahida to the crease. A full toss was
hit in the mid wicket direction which was declared a six. There
was a protest on the pitch by Embassy spectators and Lankians on
the decision. The umpire awarded the game to Rajput as Lankians
refused to carry on thus in breach of law 21. Rajput Samaj became
the 8th club to win division 1 in the league's 17 year history.
Bharat
Olympians claimed runners up spot in division two to clinch promotion
to division one alongside the divisional champions Indiana. Muktajivan
finished bottom of division.
In
division 3, Shivam posted 243-7 in 37 overs against Regency in amongst
the interruptions by showers. Mayur Vaja (55) Dharmendra Vaja (51)
and Aspal Balu (48) all made useful contributions for Shivam. Regency
were all out for 111 in 27.1 with Rohan Gopal providing the only
highlight for them with 51. Shivam finished top of the table and
will be joined by Youth Wing who finished second following their
defeat at the hands of Lohana. Youth Wing's match with Lohana was
reduced to 30 overs and was lite up by some lust blows from the
opener Kumaran Pathmanathan (57). Once Kumaran was out, Lohana were
unable to maintain the momentum as Neil Patel chipped in with 4-12.
Lohana were dismissed for 141 in 29.5 overs. Youth Wing were given
a solid start with the openers scoring at 6 an over for the first
5 overs. Once the openers were out, the rotation of the Lohana bowlers
ensured that they kept the pressure on the in coming batsman. In
the end, Youth Wing finished 11 short of their target, however were
assured of promotion to division 2
