Report for 2 August 2009

Lankians have reached the cup final for the 2nd year run following their 63 run win over Sri Lankan Cavaliers. Only 2 weeks ago, Lankians had been bowled out for 44 by Sri Lankan Cavaliers. Lankians got off to a great start as they raced to 70 for 0 in first 10 overs. Sankalpa Gunasekara was on fine form as boundaries continued to flow with 24 coming off one over. Sanjeewa Wijetunga and Sankalpa put on 111 for the first wicket in 17 overs before Sankalpa was caught behind for 81 which included fourteen fours and two massive sixes.


Nilam Mohammed joined Sanjeewa and put on 72 run partnership in 14 overs. At 183 for 2 in 33 overs, Lankians lost regular wickets trying to accelerate and reached 268 for 9 in 45 overs. SLC openers Nabil Shah and Duminda Abeytunga started aggressively as they raced to 84 in 10 overs. Nilam Mohammed (3-41) removed Nabil with great catch on his own bowling and Duminda was smartly stumped by Sujith Kumarasinghe off Dalluwatta's bowling few overs later. SLC continued to attack and stayed with the run, however no one else put in an substantial innings. Sujith Kumarasinghe (2-23), Suranga Dalluwatta (2-20) and Sujith Perera all took as SLC were bowled out for 205 in 39.3 overs.

Neasden will play Lankians in the final following their win over Anson. Hitesh Goswami made 57 for Anson as they were restricted to 153 in 44 overs mainly due to Ashish Patel taking 5-30. Nayan Patel made 71no is Neasden's response after their progress was checked by Kamlesh Desai 3-9 and Mehul Ashara 3-40. Neasden managed to get home with 5 overs to spare as they made 157-8 in 40 overs.

 

In the plate competition, DIU Daredevils played Welldon with the latter batting first. Ramya Upadhyay dropped for 4 in the third over scored a patient 90 runs and was involved a 59 run partnership for the 9th wicket with skipper Bharat Amin. This rescued Welldon from 120 for 8 and gave them a defendable target. DIU Daredevils chased the score valiantly but ended up 25 runs short in the end. In the other plate semi final, Rajput Samaj II took on West Harrow. Siddharth Desai 54 and Dilip Thakker 63no gave West Harrow the opportunity to score 213-9 in 45 overs with Raminder Singh taking the bowling honours for Rajput Samaj II's as he returned figures of 3-22. Vanraj Raj 63 and Rakesh Solanki 40 have Rajput Samaj hope to chase down the total, however Umesh Vakil 3-41and Dilip Thakker 3-35 ensured that the other batsman made little contribution. Rajput Samaj were eventually bowled out for 190 in 39.3 overs.

Both the finals will be played on 30th August (reserve day 31st Aug) starting 11.00am at Raghuvanshi Sports Ground and Old Millhillians CC, Headstone Lane, Harrow, Middx (Ent. opp. Headstone Lane British Rail station).
