Report for30 August 2009 - MPCL Cup Final

The 17th Middlesex Premier Cup was played on 30th August at Old Millhillians CC in Headstone Lane. Neasden won the toss and elected to field first. Lankians had an early set back; however Gunasekara Sankalpa (53) and Sujith Kumarasinghe (29) laid the foundations with a 90 partnership. Paras Patel impressed with his nine overs going for only 15 runs which included 4 consecutive maidens at the start of his spell.

Lankians cricket teamPradeep Jayapakrasdaran (68) provided the middle order drive, however lacked support from other batsman as Lankians finished on 229-9 in 45 overs. When Neasden batted they were given a slow but good start by the openers. Lankians skipper Raslin tried bowling with his damaged ankle and had to give up after one ball. Once Ravi Subramaniam (2-20) had prized out the openers, Neasden were always under pressure to keep up with the required run rate. Nayan Patel (44) provided some resistance but was brilliantly caught at mid wicket by Sujith Kumarasinghe.

Raslin Sirajudeen, Captain of Lankians accepts the MPCL Cup 2009 from Arvind PatelThe Lankian spinners mopped up the tail with Suranga Daluwatta taking 3-24. Neasden were eventually bowled out for 155 in 37.4 overs as the storm clouds gathered overhead. Sujith Kumarasinghe was named man of the match for his influence throughout the game. Lankians skipper Raslin Sirajudeen picked up the winners cup.
