JOHN CUMMING CUP & PLATE FINAL 2004

The finals of cup competitions of the Middlesex Premier Cricket League were both played on 29th August at Bessborough CC, Headstone Lane. Both matches started later than the scheduled start of 11.00am due to the damp weather conditions.

Neasden TeamThe John Cumming Cup final between Neasden and SKLP started at 1.30 and was reduced to 40 overs per side. Paritosh Ghadiali won the toss and elected to bat first in damp and cloudy conditions. Runs were hard to come by early on as SKLP bowled a tight line and fielded well as the Neasden batsman were made to work for their runs. Amul Desai (38), Mandar Apte (23) and Vishwajit Solanki (38) ensured that Neaden scored just over three runs an over through out the innings. Kishnan Pillai took a sharp catch at backward point to remove the Neasden skipper Paritosh Ghadiali off the bowling of Bharat Bhanderi. The final drive to accelerate their run rate resulted in Neasden finishing on 161 -7 in 40 overs. Bharat Bhanderi finished with 3-36.

SKLPSKLP got off to a poor start as they were quickly reduced to 13-3. Krishnan Pillai helped rebuild the innings with 76no, however found little support except from his colleagues. Vishwajit Solanki took 3-30 as SKLP struggled to 98-8. Some lusty blows from Bharat Bhanderi (24) gave the large contingent of SKLP supporters something cheer about towards the end. SKLP finished on 146-8 in 40 overs.

Balwant N. Patel of John Cumming Ross presented the winners trophy to Paritosh Ghadiali of Neasden. The man of the match award went to SKLP's Krishnan Pillai who scored 76no. Neasden will start their defense of the trophy against Kingsbury Construction whilst SKLP are away to Sri Lankian Cavaliers

JOHN CUMMING PLATE FINAL

Balwant N Patel recognises the work of the Umpires. The 4th John Cumming plate was played between Kingsbury Construction and Lohana. Due to the damp conditions, the game started 2 hours late at 1.00pm. Lohana skipper Vikesh Savani won the toss and elected to bat in the 45 overs match. Lohana lost an early wicket, however patient innings from Digant Popat (53) and Vishal Vakani (45) gave the Lohana innings a firm foundation as they shared a 90 run partnership. By the 43rd over, Lohana had moved to just over 171. Dev Thakker hit 3 sixes towards the end to boost Lohana's total to 192 for 7 in 45 overs. Kalpesh Trivedi finished with the best bowling figures with 2-21

Kingsbury Construction had to score over 4 an over and had an early set back with the loss pin shooter Sunil Harji. None of the Kingsbury batsman were allowed to settle as wickets fell at regular intervals. Daksheet Patel, Dev Thakker and Kamal Patel all took a brace of wickets each, leaving Kingsbury on 34-6. Suresh Gopal provided some resistance, however Lohana wrapped up the Kingsbury innings for 98. Digant Popat was the man of the match for his performance with the bat.
