ADAM
KHAN SECURES 9TH PLACE IN A1 GRAND PRIX
(21 September 2005)
British
Asian racing driver, Adam Khan qualified 8th out of 25 drivers on
the Saturday 21 September 2005 at Brands Hatch, came 7th in the
Sprint race, and was running in fourth in the main race until a
problem with his pit stop dropped him three laps. Adam fought back
though, finishing 13th for the race and 9th overall. A very commendable
result and demonstrating his ability to run right at the front in
future races.
Racing
for Pakistan in the first ever A1Grand Prix, Khan commented "It
was a privilege to be representing such a great nation in this global
racing series. It was the first time that nations competed directly
with each other on an equal footing in motorsport, and this gave
me the opportunity to make 154 million people in Pakistan very proud".
The
A1 Grand Prix series, the brainchild of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum
Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, member of the ruling family of Dubai,
commenced this weekend at Brands Hatch. With 25 nations taking part
in 12 races covering 5 continents between September 2005 and March
2006, the series is poised to take the motor racing world by storm.
Adam
Khan, aged 20, has competed in the Eurocup Renault V6 series and
the British F3 championship. Adam was spotted by Eddie Jordan as
a potential champion of the future when he was just seventeen, and
has been supported by the team ever since.
Adam
Khan has followed a different path to many racing drivers. He has
pursued his passion to develop his motorsport career in tandem with
his academic studies. Adam holds the equivalent of 7 A levels, and
uses his natural intelligence to generate speed and tactical advantage
on the track. He has just finished his first year at Kings College
University London, but is now putting his studies on hold to concentrate
on bringing the A1 Grand Prix Championship home to Pakistan.
