MATCH FOR INDIA'S DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN

Eight
Indian IT companies participated in the CRY Corporate Cricket Challenge
to support the disadvantaged children in India on 23 July 2005 in
London. The participating teams were Covansys, Iflex Solutions,
Infosys, ITC Infotech, Mahindra British Telecom, Polaris, Tata Consultancy
Services and Wipro Technologies.
The
eight teams were divided into two groups. Group A consisted of Covansys,
Iflex, Polaris and Wipro. Infosys, ITC Infotech, TCS and MBT formed
Group B. There were two knock out matches per group, the winners
of which played in the semi-finals. The winner of the semi-finals
competed in the finals. All the teams were extremely competitive
and it turned out to be a keenly contested day of cricket.
Group
A semi-finalists were Covansys and Wipro while Group B semi-finalists
were MBT and Infosys. The pitch that group A played on turned out
to be a high scoring pitch with each team scoring 100 runs plus
in 12 over.
The
final was between Infosys and Wipro. Infosys batting first put up
a score of 110 in 15 overs helped by an excellent batting performance
by Amit who hit one six and four 4s. Wipro got off to a shaky start
with Sumeet taking a hat-trick. Sudhir and Srikanth with their excellent
batting performance ensured a victory for Wipro in what proved to
be a nail biting finish.
The
funds raised from this tournament will support children with special
needs in Jaipur, India.
